- גּוּאַלְקָא, גּוּלְקָא, גְּוַולְקָאm. (Arab. ḡuwâliḳ, Pers. ḡawâlakh = hippopera, Freytag s. v.) long pouch as a receptacle for grain, thrown over the shoulders or across an animals back, haversack. Taan.23b הבו לי גוּאַלְקִיוכ׳ (Ar. … קא; Ms. M. 2 שקיל גולקא, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 200) get me my haversack, and I shall go and buy Pl. גּוֹאַלְקָאן, גּוֹאַלְקֵי. Targ. Lam. 5:5.Sabb.154b, v. הֶבֶר (where Var. lect. are quoted). Succ.20b חזו לגואלקי Ms. M. (ed. לגולקי) are fit for haversacks.
